"147 Pianos" Documentary Film
Leading Pianist and Coordinator

Picture

North America Debut in Chicago

147 Pianos is about pianos, doing things together and Chicago. It’s about Lukas Piano Service. Ed Lisauskas and his long-standing partner, Sylvester Czajkowski, tune and fix pianos, including lots of player pianos. They are treasures of information about the history of pianos, here in Chicago and elsewhere, and have a warehouse full of at least 150 well-worn but living pianos that they have refurbished for decades.

The music composition divided into three levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced/pro players. Shuree played Chopin Scherzo No.3 as a featured pianist.

147 Pianos  was part of Chicago Artists Month 2013, the 18th annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant art community presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.  The film premiered in Chicago Film and Movie Festival in 2016, Tucson Film Festival in 2019 and broadcasted on Channel 25 TV in Ulaanbaatar in 2016.

Masterclass and Solo Concert
May 14-16, 2018

"Music Across Borders” is an educational outreach project that presenting masterclass and a solo concert at Chiapas University of the Sciences and Arts in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico. In this public masterclass, four senior-year piano performance majors are chosen to participate by the chair of the piano department. Over two days, each student will receive one hour of instruction. The solo concert will include works by Mozart, Bach and Bartok.
The purpose of this project is to promote cross-cultural exchanges through classical music and give student at Chiapas University an opportunity to perform and receive feedback from a pianist outside of Mexico. This masterclass will help the students to improve their playing in their preparation of upcoming graduation in December 2018. My hope is that my playing will inspire audience and students embracing diversity in education, creating diplomacy and encourage the students to continue their graduate studies in the States.

North America Debut on
Palm Beach TV

While I was living in South Florida, I saw the possibility to take advantage of the beautiful natural setting to do a music video project on the beach
Filmed in June 2016, I collaborated with the Palm Beach County Film Television Film Commission to acquire permission to shoot on the Delray Beach, South Florida. It was during a turtle nest season that the City of Delray officials had to make sure we are not too close to turtles' nests. The Steinway piano was sponsored by Hamilton Piano Company and piano movers from D. C. Moore &Son Inc. helped us deliver the piano to the beach. Lynn University provided the insurance that needed for the shooting on the beach. I enjoyed producing this music video and hopefully many more to come.
Hope you enjoy!

"Expressing Mongolian Identity Through Piano Performance" Lecture-Concert
Pianist and Researcher

Picture

Fieldtrip held in July-Aug, 2019
Performed in Chicago in June, 2021

The aim of this lecture-concert is to demonstrate how Sharav Byambasuren (1952 – 2019) employed forgotten folk tunes and dialects as well as traditional musical elements such as the urtyn duu (long song) and elements of the morin khuur (horse-head fiddle) to create a unique piano repertoire that communicates distinctive aspects of Mongolian culture and identity. The primary focus is the Tumnii Ekh (Myriad’s Leader), which is a collection of 16 folk song arrangements for solo piano. The composer directly quotes traditional songs from his homeland, the Khentii province, as well as songs from different ethnic groups including the Mongolian Buryat, the Uzemchin, the Dariganga, the Zakhchin, the Dörvöd, the Torghut, the Khoton, and the Khalkha. As migration from the countryside to urban cities increased, B. Sharav recognized the need to preserve traditional folk tunes. He used the piano as an analogue of oral transmission to communicate to subsequent generations. The overall research method for this study combines historical and ethnomusicological approaches to examine the phenomenon of Mongolian piano music as well as an analytical approach to the study of musical scores. The fieldwork project took place from July 2 to August 20, 2019 in Khentii province, Chinggis city (formerly Öndörkhaanan), several sum (counties) such as Jargaltkhaan, Delgerkhaan, Murun, Tsenkhermandal, and in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. The lecture recital was part of the doctoral dissertation and was performed in Chicago at Pianoforte Concert Hall in 2021.
